Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the Vth International Congress on Biodiversity: „Taxonomy, Speciation and Euro-Mediterranean Biodiversity“, taking place in Sofia, Bulgaria from 11 October to 13 October 2019. This year’s hosts of the Congress are the National Museum of Natural History (Sofia) and Sofia University – Faculty of Biology. The Congress is co-organized by the University of Catania, Entefauna Siciliana, Chloe Association and Biodiversity Journal – Italy.

We would like to bring together specialists from different fields of high-quality biodiversity research and NGOs and build a friendly environment that will be creative, stimulating and enriching to all participants, as typical for these meetings in the past. Come and experience this warm and welcoming atmosphere, and enjoy Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. 

The Congress proceedings could be published in the peer-reviewed Biodiversity Journal and Historia naturalis bulgarica.

The abstracts will be published in ARPHA Conference Abstracts (ACA) - an innovative open access publishing platform. ACA is indexed at Altmetric, BASE, CNKI, CrossRef, Dimensions, Google Scholar, J-Gate, Mendeley, Microsoft Academic, Naviga (Softweco), OCLC WorldCat, OpenAIRE, OpenCitations, ReadCube, Unpaywall.

We are pleased to announce the four respected researchers that accepted our invitation to give exciting plenary lectures during the Congress:

Dr. Ivan Löbl, Museum of Natural History, Geneva, Switzerland: “On unforeseen problems of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature”.

Dr. Anthony Herrel, National History Museum, Paris, France:Drivers of phenotypic variation in insular Mediterranean lizards.”

Prof. Antonio Perna, University of Messina, Italy: “The real situation of protected areas in Europe”.

Prof. Pavel Stoev, National Museum of Natural History, BAS: “Towards Open Science.”

Important dates:

15 August 2019 - Deadline for registration, payment and abstract submission. After this date applications will not be accepted.

15 September 2019 - Compiled program, published on the web and in the final circular.

10 (or 11th in the morning) October 2019 – Arrival and accommodation.

11 October 2019 - Start of the official program of the Congress.

13 October 2019 –End of the Congress; half-day excursion and departure.

The Congress will be held mainly in the Hotel of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

Address: 50 Shipchenski Prohod Street, 1113 Sofia. Situated at Campus 1 of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

We recommend you get an accommodation there as the location makes it highly convenient while providing comfort at a reasonable price; if you choose to do so the booking will be made through our registration form. However, please keep in mind that the number of rooms is limited and will be provided on a first-come-first-serve basis. Other accommodation options in the surrounding are also available, but it is up to you to manage your stay if you do not get a a room at the Congress hotel.
